Friday Schedule

As we prepare for a great school year beginning on Wednesday, we want to share an important update about our school schedule. This school year, all students must attend school in person every Friday.

We understand that Flex Fridays were a well-loved tradition at Promontory, and we assure you that the school made this hard decision with our students’ success in mind. As part of our ongoing School Improvement Plan (SIP) process, the state and the school evaluated longstanding practices to identify those affecting student achievement. One of these practices was our Friday schedule. With both the state’s recent analysis and supporting internal data, we made the tough decision to discontinue Flex Fridays.

As we took a closer look at our school’s data last year, the evidence was clear: students who attended in person on Fridays showed more growth in reading and math, along with improved test performance.

Time in the classroom matters. When students are present and engaged—learning directly from teachers, participating in hands-on projects, and collaborating with peers—they make deeper connections with the material. This reflects our Expeditionary Learning model, which promotes hands-on learning and experiences that facilitate learning.

Staying true to our mission and vision—to create the Great Thinkers of the 21st Century—means making choices that prioritize deep, meaningful learning and give every student the best possible chance of success. Every decision we make for Promontory has one goal in mind: to give every student the best chance for success.

Our Friday schedule will remain 8:20 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and students may continue to enjoy free dress on Fridays as long as attire meets our standards for modesty and school appropriateness.

Thank you for your continued support as we partner with you to support your students’ learning and growth.
